Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, established in 1937, protects most of the natural habitat of the organ pipe cactus in the US.

We have been in all four deserts of North America and have traveled the entire length of both the Sonoran and Chihuahuan Deserts.

We always enjoy the diverse beauty and quietness here and have crossed the border here on our way to southern Mexico.

The organ pipe is rare in the US, but it is common in Mexico.

There are many types of desert plants here, including 28 cactus species.

As a protected area, one of Earth's major ecosystems survives here almost unspoiled under nearly ideal wilderness conditions.

The United Nations has designated this monument as an International Biosphere Reserve, along with it's southern counterpart in Mexico.
