Ajo, Arizona

We took two leisurely days heading from Quartzsite to Ajo, Arizona to visit friends and explore Organ Pipe national Monument.  The free overnight campsite above is in a little known county park complete with trash barrels, picnic tables, fire rings and washrooms.

Ajo is just North of the US/Mexican border and cross-border incursions are common here.

The town has a wonderful main square that is being restored.

It's a pleasant place to spend a few hours in the shops and have lunch in the warm Arizona sun.

Two beautiful churches face the square and remind us of those small towns in Mexico.
