Port of Valdez

We are camped at the harbor entrance in Valdez next to our friends Don and Karen. It's a beautiful place, completely surrounded by snow capped mountains and glaciers with only a narrow channel opening to the inside passage.

This is our Northern most year around ice free port and is the Exxon ship terminal for the Alaska Pipe Line.

Not really a tourist town, Valdez is a very busy commercial shipping and fishing port with a small town atmosphere.

We show a few of the many boats we've seen, all from our campsite.

The Exxon Valdez oil spill has resulted in more regulations with some ships being enclosed in pollutant trapping barriers before being worked on.

Harbor security has increased since 911 and the coast guard is ever present.
